2022 JULY
This month will always be special to me, partly because its the month of my birth, who would have thought all those years ago, I would have followed a dream of playing football, even playing at Craven Cottage, Old Trafford and Edgeley Park.  Ive met some truly amazing people along the way, making memories that will last for a lifetime my wife Lisa, the birth of my 2 daughters and now my gorgeous Grandson Teddy but it could have been all so different after the tenth day of September 2012 when I had that little Stroke.  Little who am I trying to kid?
No, I am grateful that I have got a second chance and thats one of the reasons I started the StrokeInformation journey as well as the fact that a dear friend JB came up with the idea to tell people about what happened and how we could help others going through something similar.  In the past years there is not enough information advice, guidance and support for families impacted by Stroke and all I am trying to do is change that and actually get stroke survivors feeling worthy once again.  Too many times they are used, cast aside, given up on and that has to change.
So what do I think we need for Stroke?
Simply the AAA Factor
A = Awareness – the more awareness we can raise, we can let people know what its like to actually have a stroke.
A = Acknowledgement – I firmly believe that part of the recovery journey is the acceptance acknowledgement that it has happened, not why but the hard, difficult aspect of realising it has happened.
A = Acceptance – I have seen with my own eyes that as soon as the individual has accepted that it has happened and it cant be undone but improvements can be made every single day the recovery truly starts.
Closely followed or in fact prior to that is the EEE Factor
E = Education
E = Education
E = Education
The lack of understanding and knowledge of this medical condition is absolutely scandalous and StrokeInformation is slowly addressing this by getting the stroke survivor back into employment again and if the survivor is of an age where employment isn’t for them then at least making them feel empowered and worthy once again.

Just last night I was contacted by a mother whose son had his stroke 6 months ago and allegedly the NHS have now stopped any physio for him as the term plateau is being used yet again, I would love the opportunity to educate anyone about
neuroplasticity.
